Sawdust Firing Potluck Party
With the 2009-2010 year coming to a close, the Richmond Potters Club had a season ending wrap up party. With lots of great food and conversations. It was a fun time for all who attended, not even the rain could dampen our spirits. After a wonderful meal, the rain stopped and the loading of the sawdust kiln was underway. The mountain of sawdust soon started to fly and not long after it was raining horse dung. Next to go in the kiln was the pots, ferns, banana peels, tin foil and copper carbonate. With the kiln filled up, we started a short dance, a slight jiggle, and a chant to the kiln gods before lighting it up. A few days of patient waiting, though the few days did seem like an eternity, the firing was finished and the kiln unloaded. Ah-ha success!! Every pot survived and no broken pieces, it's a miracle. Thank you kiln gods. The dance, jiggle and chant must have worked. To view the results from the Richmond Potters Club sawdust firing please see below.
