Our classes offer a supportive and engaging environment for both beginner and intermediate potters to explore the art of ceramics. Under the guidance of our experienced instructors, you'll learn fundamental skills in handbuilding, wheel throwing, and glazing.
Our small class sizes (maximum 10 students) ensure personalized attention and hands-on practice, allowing you to develop your skills and create beautiful handcrafted pieces. We offer classes four times a year, starting in January, April, July, and September.

How to Register for Adult Pottery Classes
Online registration for all Richmond Potters' Club classes is done through the City of Richmond's recreation registration website. You can view the Richmond Potters' Club class schedule and register by visiting the City of Richmond Parks and Recreation page and following these steps:

What will I learn?
Students receive 27 hours of instruction, covering hand building, wheel throwing, and glazing techniques. You’ll receive a combination of small group instruction and demonstration, as well as one-on-one support for your pottery journey.
Is experience required to take a Richmond Potters' Club class?
No clay experience necessary. Richmond Potters' Club classes are suitable for both beginner and intermediate-level potters. Our small classes provide hands-on instruction and demonstration to students, teaching fundamental skills in handbuilding, wheel throwing, and glazing.
What should I bring to class?
At your first class, you will purchase a 25 pound bag of clay, which you can store in the studio.

- Cash, check, or credit card to purchase clay* and a basic tool kit
- Resealable container for clay recycling (1-2 litre, i.e., a large yogurt tub or storage container)
- Bring your own toolkit or purchase one at the first class.

- Your personal tool kit

What should I wear to my pottery class?
Dress for the mess: Students are encouraged to wear shoes and clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty.
You may also want to bring an apron or coveralls to protect your clothing. We recommend leaving bracelets, rings, watches, etc. at home.

Do You Offer Classes For Children?
Richmond Potters' Club only offers classes for adults (19+). Children’s classes are available through the Richmond Art Center.
Can I bring my own clay?
No, to ensure the safety and protection of our equipment, clay must be purchased from the Richmond Potters' Club. It will be available to purchase via cash or card on the first day of class. After the first class, you can bring in cash to pay for additional clay.
